Midwest Energy & Communications started life in 1937 as a rural electric co-operative, providing energy to rural homes that were overlooked by the big utility giants. Today that vision still stands, with MEC bringing power and fiber internet to over 35,000 homes across rural Michigan and parts of northern Indiana and Ohio. After a period of rapid growth, MEC needed a digital workplace to keep their employees connected.
MEC is a customer-owned co-operative that provides utility solutions, including electric distribution, propane, internet, and phone to thousands of people living in rural spaces. Their vision is to create vibrant, relevant, and sustainable rural communities, delivering better and more reliable solutions to those in areas that were previously unserved or underserved.
After fast track growth in both products and employees, MEC knew they needed to be very strategic and intentional about keeping their employee family in-the-know. With 135 employees spread across 5 offices, as well as a number of staff working in the field, a Claromentis digital workplace fit the bill perfectly.
MEC’s digital workplace and mobile intranet
MEC needed an integrated digital workplace to be their one-stop shop for communication and daily corporate functioning. Their customer care team use intranet pages every day to access e-forms and resources that help them deliver support and serve customers.
Access to a mobile intranet was key for MEC field workers. Those who aren’t in the office have the same access and capabilities as those who are, helping to keep everyone up-to-date wherever they are located.
